SCHOOL OF ACROBATIC CIRCUS AND ARTS
DESCRIPTION OF THE PROJECT
IMPLANTATION
Brussels, BELGIUM
2015
2nd year of Bachelor
„A building in connection with the acrobatic circus has to be as acrobatic as acrobatics figures .“
Patrick Bouchain
The challenge of the project was to convert a neglected and semi-wild public square in the heart of Brussels, finding its own strong and assumed identity, in symbiosis with its urban environment.
Place de la Vaillance, in the Anderlcht district, is located at the foot of the Saint-Guidon collegiate church. It is part of an urban framework whose routes and buildings bear witness to the historical stages of the transformation of a village nucleus into a consolidated city.
- The interval is the in-between that connects and distances at the same time. In the world of the circus as in architecture it is objectivable because it qualifies the inside and the outside of temporality, public and private, from the stage to the composition or again shadow and light of the body and space.
- The continuity of any acrobatic prowess can be in the image of a building which wants to be as audacious in its expression.
The programme is based on the universality of the circus and is in line with current contemporary developments. Outside traditional families, circus, learning is now accessible to all.
This project is intended to be the slenderness of an architectural performance that rises up on the square as a unifying element.
Its light implantation opens it totally to the district. He exposes the circus to the city in a show where art merges with the technique that comes to reconcile them in a moment of admiration.
