MARIE SHORT HOUSE

DESCRIPTION OF THE PROJECT

IMPLANTATION

Kempsey, AUSTRALIA

2014

2nd year of Bachelor

"Je suis continuellement fasciné par la magie de l'endroit, la lumière du soleil, les ombres, le vent, la chaleur et de froid, les parfums de nos arbres fleurissants et des usines, tout particulièrement par l'immensité de l'île continent."

Glenn murcutt

"TOUCH THE EARTH LIGHTLY" G.M.

Glenn Murcutt builds simple, refined but above all, he wants the most expressive architecture possible. The Marie Short House flies as close as possible to the earth and dialogues with all the geometrical complexities of the earth to create a home whose comfort is regulated climatically.

The house is located in a plain of New South Wales in Australia 350km from Syndey. The architect, inspired by the immaculate nature of the site, creates a first house for his client Marie Short.

In 1980, Glenn Murcutt made the Marie Short House his home and extended the volumes to meet his needs. He then developed a simple, functional and humbly technical construction that embodied all the environmental and ethical concerns that would later characterize his work.

The philosophy of Glenn Murcutt's projects leads him to consider phenomena as totalities that have led to a self-referential practice whose principles rigorously guide the design of his buildings.Inspired by the local know-how of the Aboriginal populations and the awareness of their imprint on the earth, Glenn Murcutt follows in the footsteps of building architects and has developed a set of techniques to minimize the impact of construction on the soil, its fauna and flora.
